  • Super Guarantee (SG): The legislated minimum employer contribution rate. Currently 11.5% (2024–25), rising to 12% from 1 July 2025. This calculator uses your selected rate throughout.
  • Salary growth: Your salary is assumed to grow at 2.5% per annum, consistent with long-run wage price index assumptions.
  • Investment return: Applied after investment fees, before the 15% earnings tax that applies within superannuation accumulation phase.
  • Tax on earnings: The calculator applies an effective 15% tax rate to investment earnings, consistent with the standard superannuation accumulation tax environment.
  • Tax on concessional contributions: Concessional (before-tax) contributions are taxed at 15% on entry, consistent with current superannuation law.
  • Inflation: Results are shown in today's purchasing power (real dollars) by discounting future values by the assumed inflation rate.
  • Retirement income drawdown: Estimated income is calculated using a 5% annual withdrawal rate from the retirement balance over the selected drawdown period.
  • Age Pension estimate: A simplified estimate based on 2024–25 Age Pension rates for singles ($1,144.40/fortnight). Actual eligibility depends on income and asset tests administered by Services Australia.
  • No career breaks: The calculator assumes continuous employment from your current age to retirement age.
  • No insurance premiums: Insurance premiums inside super funds reduce balances and are not modelled.
  • No rollovers or fund consolidations: Only a single super account is modelled.
  • Concessional contributions cap: $30,000 per year (includes employer SG and salary sacrifice). Unused cap amounts may be carried forward under catch-up rules if your balance is below $500,000.
  • Non-concessional contributions cap: $120,000 per year. The bring-forward rule allows up to $360,000 over three years for those under 75.
  • Preservation age: Currently 60 for those born after 30 June 1964. Super can generally be accessed tax-free after age 60 upon retirement or meeting a condition of release.
  • Age Pension qualifying age: Currently 67 for Australians born on or after 1 January 1957.
  • Transfer Balance Cap: $1.9 million limit on the amount that can be transferred to a retirement pension account (tax-free earnings phase).
  • Super tax on large balances: From 1 July 2025, balances above $3 million may be subject to an additional 15% tax on earnings (Division 296 tax — subject to legislation).

Enter your current age, retirement age, current super balance, and salary. The calculator will project your super balance at retirement based on:

  • Ongoing employer Super Guarantee contributions
  • Any additional voluntary contributions you make
  • Investment earnings net of fees and super earnings tax
  • Inflation adjustment to show results in today's dollars

The estimated retirement income shows how long your super could last at a 5% annual drawdown rate, plus an estimate of the Age Pension if applicable. Adjust the investment return and fee sliders to test optimistic and conservative scenarios.
